I have been using Backpack by 37 Signals for quite some time now to keep projects organized and store information I may need later on. It is a fantastic utility anyone can use, very simple, and free. I have been hitting the limits of the free plan, which for many people is sufficient, so I plan on upgrading to the $5 per month plan here shortly. If I am going to be paying money, I better make sure I am using it as well as I can.

I have found two great utilities, one a Firefox add-on, the second a widget.

Backpack Pages

Backpack Addon

Backpage Pages is by Ben Mills, and is a Firefox add-on that puts a little Backpack logo in your Firefox tool bar. Simply click on the logo, it will list all of your Backpack pages, a shortcut to create a new page and a shortcut to create a new reminder. A very handy utility that allows you quick access to your pages and a very quick way to make reminders.

Backpack Widget

Backpack Widget

Backpack Widget is by Chipt Productions, and is invaluable to anyone using a mac and backpack. Just download the widget, install it, do a quick setup and it starts pulling all your information from your backpack pages right into the widget.

The widget allows you to full edit any notes, lists or reminders that you currently have, as well as add new ones on the fly. For me, this is much easier than heading over to my backpack account, finding the right page, making edits, etc.

If you use backpack, check out these two options, and if you don’t use backpack, you really should.
